Holy Week Fast - Holy Saturday - Day Seven

Scripture

Psalm 27.1-14

Holy Saturday: Waiting in Silence and Hope

Holy Saturday is the quietest day of Holy Week. After the sorrow of Good Friday, it’s a day of waiting. The Gospels don’t tell us much about what happened that day, but what we do know is important.

After Jesus died, the Jewish leaders were worried His followers might steal His body and say He had come back to life. So, Pilate ordered guards to be placed at the tomb, and a big stone was rolled in front of it. No one would be able to take Jesus’ body without a fight. The tomb was sealed, and no one could enter.

Meanwhile, the disciples were hiding in fear. They were heartbroken, confused, and unsure what to do next. The Sabbath added to the quiet and sadness, but even in their grief, they remembered Jesus had promised to rise again.

Holy Saturday can also remind us of those times in life when we’re waiting and unsure of what’s next. We may feel like nothing is happening, like we’re stuck in the silence. But even in those quiet times, God is still working.

Holy Saturday teaches us that sometimes we need to wait in silence. It may feel like we’re stuck between the pain of the past and hope for the future, but that doesn’t mean God isn’t working. Just as the disciples were waiting without knowing Jesus was about to rise, we can trust that God is working in our lives, even when we don’t see it.

Today, let’s remember that even in the silence, God is at work. The silence of the tomb didn’t last forever. On Sunday, Jesus rose from the dead, and we have that same hope.

As we wait today, remember that God’s plans are always unfolding, even when we can’t see it. Take time to reflect, knowing that after the silence, joy comes. The resurrection is coming, and with it, new life in Christ.

Reflection

Holy Saturday reminds us that even in seasons of silence and waiting, God is still working behind the scenes.

Share a time when you had to trust God’s plan even when you didn’t see immediate results.

How did waiting on God strengthen your faith?

Reminder: Today at 10am is Easter setup. Resurrection Sunday is tomorrow at 10am! Activities and refreshments after service for the whole family and a Photo Booth! All are welcome
