Resurrection Sunday: Jesus is Alive!
Easter Sunday is the best day for Christians. It’s the day we celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead. Early in the morning, before the sun came up, Jesus left the tomb and came back to life!
Jesus' resurrection is the reason we have hope. Because He is alive, we know that death isn’t the end, and we can be forgiven and have eternal life with God.
On that first Easter Sunday, Jesus didn’t just rise and stay hidden. He appeared to many people, showing them that He was alive. Let’s look at all the people the Bible recorded Him appearing to:
To Mary Magdalene – Mary was the first to see Jesus alive. She was crying outside the tomb, but when she looked up, she saw Jesus standing there. He called her by name, and she realized He was alive!
To the Other Women – Other women came to the tomb to finish preparing Jesus’ body. They also saw Jesus, who told them not to be afraid and to go tell His disciples that He had risen.
To Two Disciples on the Road to Emmaus – Later the day, two followers of Jesus were walking to a town called Emmaus. Jesus joined them on the walk, but they didn’t recognize Him at first. After talking to them about the Scriptures, they finally realized it was Jesus when they broke bread together.
To Peter – Though it’s not explained in detail, we know that Jesus also appeared to Peter. This was a moment of forgiveness and healing for Peter, who had denied Jesus three times.
To the Disciples – Later, Jesus appeared to all the disciples in a locked room. They were scared, but Jesus showed them that He was really alive. Thomas wasn’t there at first, but when he saw Jesus, he believed.
Easter Sunday reminds us that Jesus is alive. His resurrection gives us hope and the promise of eternal life. Because Jesus arose from the dead, we can live in victory. His resurrection means that one day everything will be made new, and death no longer has power over us.
As we celebrate today, remember that Jesus is alive and that because He lives we can have new life in Him. Take a moment to thank God for the resurrection and what it means for you. Rejoice in the joy of Easter, knowing that Jesus will never leave you – that He is a God who crossed insurmountable odds to prove that fact.
