Holy Week Fast 2025

Introduction

So you are interested in signing up for the Holy Week Fast? That is amazing! Let’s talk about what that looks like.

Scripture

  • Each day will have a selection of Scripture to read beforehand to tell the story of Holy Week

  • Don’t skip this portion of the reading

Reading

  • Each day will talk about the Historical and Spiritual significance of that day

  • This portion will help you to contextualize that day for your own life

Reflection

  • These questions are meant to be springboards for journaling or discussions

  • It is recommended that you don’t complete this fast by yourself

  • Find a friend, mentor, family member, or your spouse to complete this with and use these reflection questions to unpack the heavy truths of this week with that person.

  • There is an optional Facebook Group where the discussion questions will be posted each morning to also share with other people completing the fast.

Prayer

  • These are unscripted springboard statements to get your creative juices flowing for prayer

  • If you struggle to stay focused in silent prayer, maybe journal your prayer using the prayer focus as a jumping off point. Set a 5-10 minute timer to schedule a free flow write to God for that time.

Fast

  • Fasting does not have to be food, but it does have to interrupt your life

  • Fasting is not a time to “become better” at dieting, using electronics, etc. If you set out to use this fast to fix your habits, you have missed the point. Fasting is setting aside something that is important to you with the intention to say “God you are more important than even this”

  • Some great examples: Fasting lunch and spending your lunch time reading the Holy Week Fast, fasting music and instead use the silence to meditate on the sacrifice of Christ, fasting social media and instead of scrolling first thing in the morning you do your Holy Week Fast material, or fasting my car and I will walk to work and pray for that week.

  • A great way to think about what to fast is to ask yourself, “what is cluttering my life, and how could I make some intentional room for God this week?

  • Text “FAST” to 719-413-5352 to get the digital copies sent to your phone

  • If you are doing this via paper copies please text/tell Pastor Lindsay 719-357-8285 so she can be covering you in prayer during your journey

  • Another tool in this journey this year is a the Holy Week Fast Facebook Group. This is a private group of just people who are completing the fast at our church. Each day the reflection questions will be posted in the group for the participants to discuss with one another. Also use this as an opportunity to pray for your fellow fasters. This is a private group so you have to ask to be included here.

A NOTE FROM PASTOR LINDSAY

I want to hold your hands when I tell you this. You are capable of so much more than you think you are dear friends. Fasting reminds us of the spiritual reality that our strength comes from the Lord. Take a deep breath and let that truth sink in. In the hustle and bustle of life we can glean over that truth. Your strength comes from the Lord.

As your pastor, I want to issue a challenge, neigh, a dare. Especially for my folks that are returning to the Holy Week Fast again for round two. Dig deeper.

Not because you are tough, not to prove something to the world or to be the best. But because deep down when we dig deeply in a fast, it proves something to ourselves. It refines a truth our souls deeply need reminding of that no amount of preaching, serving, and worship songs can - that my God is enough.

So as you prayerfully consider what you ought to fast, make sure it pushes you to the edges of yourself. For when we arrive at the edges of ourselves, we stand face to face with our Creator.

God has got you in His hands.

I have got you in my prayers.
